(5 x 60 meters) x 2 @ 80%
College astroturf. 1 p.m. Sunny and 38 degrees. 10 mph wind, usually behind but swirling a little. Layered up and comfortable, if by comfortable you mean "a little cold."
The title captures the workload for today. The idea was to hit 10 solid reps at 80% using good sprint mechanics. Not an ideal day for sprinting, temperature wise, but just fine for getting mechanics done once you get warmed up. 3 minutes between reps, 8 minutes between sets.
I drilled them as part of my workout. A-skips and B-skips, some fast turnover drills--all with a mind toward trying to begin the process of grooving in the right habits.
Standing start. All of these were between 9.2 and 9.4. If these are 80% (and in 38 degree weather, I don't think they were much more), then that should translate, conservatively to a mid 8 second 60 meter. Given that I measured this 60 meters, as opposed to the "heat check" on December 17 (where I stepped off the distance), I have a little more confidence that this is where I am right now. Mid-8 (8.4 to 8.6) is a perfectly respectable place to be.
If that's where I am.
