10.5, 10.6, 10.4, 10.6, 10.5, 10.3

Call this a "heat check." I wanted to see where, approximately, I am. I haven't been training sprints, per se, and I haven't even been conditioning that much, running-wise. But seven weeks out from a possible indoor meet, I wanted to get an idea of where I am. So I ventured to the blacktop oval, with stopwatch in hand, to see what I could see.

What I saw was encouraging, but inconclusive. At 85%, from a standing start, I have the equivalent of a 9.0 60 meter. Translate that to an all-out effort, and I'm in top-20 (US) shape right now. On blacktop, in trainers, at 47 degrees.

I'd love to believe that, but I don't think so. Getting stronger certainly makes me faster; no doubt about that. But I haven't put in the track work yet to see that kind of success. It's been almost a month since the last track session. Thus, today is encouraging, but inconclusive.
